Zo klein als het dorpje Montalcino is (5.000 inwoners), zo groot zijn de wijnen die er vandaan komen. Brunello di Montalcino is een van de meest beroemde wijnen van Italië. Hij wordt gemaakt van de Sangiovese Grosso druif. De lange verplichte rijping (minimaal 4 jaar) zorgt voor complexe en rijke wijnen.
De Brunello di Montalcino Riserva van Tenuta Le Potazzine heeft een mooie robijnrode kleur met diepe granaatrode reflecties. In de neus diepe en intense aroma’s van rijpe kersen en besfruit, met duidelijke hints van tabak, drop en confiture, gevolgd door een mooie kruidigheid. De smaak is ongekend elegant en fluweelachtig, met afgeronde tannines en een aanhoudend intense afdronk.
De Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wordt alleen in de beste vintages gemaakt na een zorgvuldige selectie van de druiven in de wijngaard. De afgelopen 20 jaar is hij alleen gemaakt in 2004, 2006, 2011 en 2015 (deze laatste is nog niet op de markt).
De druiven voor deze Rosso di Montalcino zijn afkomstig van de wijngaarden Le Prata (500m hoogte) en Le Torre (420m). De druiven worden handmatig geoogst. De zeer lange fermentatie (ruim 40 dagen) in RVS vindt plaats op een geheel natuurlijke wijze, zonder toegevoegde kweekgisten. Na fermentatie rijpt de wijn circa 60 maanden in eikenhouten vaten van 30 en 50 hectoliter, waarbij de druiven van elke wijngaard apart rijpen. Na de rijping wordt de wijn geblend en gebotteld en rust dan nog 12 maanden op fles.
De Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is vooral heerlijk bij de open haard na een geweldige maaltijd!

With each swirl, a bouquet of mentholated cherry, autumnal spice, shaved cedar and Tuscan dust gains amplitude and richness. The textures are undeniably elegant, communicating opulence while also stimulating the senses with salty minerals and an inner smokiness that I find wildly compelling. An intense array of red currants, licorice and savory spice fills the senses and translates directly to the finale, where regal tannins saturate, promising a remarkably long life. Only 3,000 bottles of this beauty were produced.”
